Ever needed to build something? If so, was a marshmallow part of that project? It was, for our science students! Check out the "Marshmallow Engineering Challenge" from Earth Science classes.
Kindness matters! These students made posters to put up around the school to remind us why kindness matters. We could all use a little kindness in our lives.
Last week in the 8th grade English classes, students shared recently created spooky vignettes around a campfire!
Mr. Wright had a contest in geology class for the top "Principles of Geology" picture books. They were judged by Mr. Wright, Mr. Peterson, and Mr. Sorensen. Sierra Snyder took first place. Carson Dahl took 2nd place, Lexey Manley took 3rd place, and Brookelin McDaniel took 4th place. Dr. Doofenshmirtz (middle) congratulated each student and will be presenting them with a reward of a few points extra credit and their favorite candy bar.
Students are excited about the new astronomy club at PJHS! They had their first gathering last Friday night and are happy to accept new additions to the club. We'd like to recognize our student leaders who attended Captain's Academy this week. Captain's Academy is a bi-yearly conference for student leaders selected from each secondary school in Nebo School District where they focus on sportsmanship and leadership skills. Jordan Stevenson was the featured speaker at this conference. Jordan is a wounded war veteran now living in Spanish Fork who taught the students how to take simple steps and celebrate simple victories in order to make larger gains and meet their goals.
Hispanic Heritage Month in Payson started off with a great Latino Festival on Saturday, Sept 24 at Peteetneet! Students from Payson Jr. High, Payson High School, and other schools, volunteered in the Opening Ceremony and participated in the Parade of Flags. There are 21 official Spanish-speaking countries, so 21 flags were represented! These students are in Spanish classes, Peer Leadership classes, and ESL classes. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated Sep. 15 through Oct 15.
You never know who you might run into in our larger community. One of our science teachers, Mr. Wright, was delighted to come across some of our PJHS students at a recent expo where famed science fiction author Todd McCaffrey was signing books. We love the varied interests of our students and staff members here at PJHS!
Thanks to all the students who participated in our chalk art activity last week. Mrs. Flake's and Mrs. Anderson's advisory classes won the competition, but there were many fantastic pieces of chalk art. Click this article to see some of the fun entries.
