Hispanic Heritage Month in Payson started off with a great Latino Festival on Saturday, Sept 24 at Peteetneet! Students from Payson Jr. High, Payson High School, and other schools, volunteered in the Opening Ceremony and participated in the Parade of Flags. There are 21 official Spanish-speaking countries, so 21 flags were represented! These students are in Spanish classes, Peer Leadership classes, and ESL classes. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated Sep. 15 through Oct 15.
You never know who you might run into in our larger community. One of our science teachers, Mr. Wright, was delighted to come across some of our PJHS students at a recent expo where famed science fiction author Todd McCaffrey was signing books. We love the varied interests of our students and staff members here at PJHS!
Congrats to our students on the Payson Pipe Band who performed for Homecoming to introduce the football players and coaching staff, then to start the game!
Also, Payson High School hosted the annual Tournament of Bands competition last week. Pipe Band performed for the crowd while the judges completed the final scoring tallies of the day. Click the article to check out some more pictures of the band.
We are grateful for our teacher advisors and students who make the after school clubs at PJHS so enjoyable. Mr. Wright recently shared some photos of the Chess and D&D clubs that enjoy getting together in his room each Wednesday afternoon. Click the article to check out the fun, and come join them!
Our Alternative Placement Coordinator, Mrs. Diane K. Martin, was recently recognized by Nebo School District as a PEAK Award winner. The district PEAK Award Customer Service Program aims to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department. Mrs. Martin was honored last Wednesday evening at board meeting.
PJHS staff and students were honored to host Musician/Motivational Speaker Ryan Stream at an assembly last Thursday. Click on this story to see more pictures of Ryan interacting with students at school. Ryan is not only entertaining but compassionate in his message of hope and resilience. We are grateful to him for his counsel and are excited at the prospect of waving hi when we see him around the community. Special thanks to Mrs. Mangum and our Counseling Department for arranging the assembly.
Congratulations to our staff and students who successfully completed the Loafer Mountain hike last Thursday. We appreciate the efforts of Mr. Archer to manage this activity each year and prepare students for the rigorous physicality of the hike. Great job everyone!
