Payson High School is thrilled to announce our new head volleyball coach: Kristin Shirley. Coach Shirley brings with her a wealth of volleyball knowledge and experience. She also brings a contagious love for the game.
Coach Shirley grew up in Arizona where she played volleyball and basketball for Westwood High School, and practiced with the local YMCA’s Mens volleyball team. She then played volleyball for South Mountain Community College in Arizona, where she was ranked number 2 in the state for serving and number 8 for setting. Her family moved to Utah at the start of her freshman year in college, so she followed them here. Once in Utah, she began playing beach volleyball and was ranked number 2 in the state for women’s in 1995. She attended SUU where she met her husband Brent. (He co-founded SUU men’s club volleyball team and Kristin played in a couple of tournaments on their men’s team as a setter. ) Currently, she is coaching a boys club volleyball team here in Payson. To say she loves volleyball is an understatement! Kristin and Brent have 6 kids all of whom have or will graduate from Payson High.
We asked coach Shirley to describe how she feels about starting her position as head coach for Payson High School. She said: "I am so excited to be coaching at Payson High! I know we have a lot of talent here at PHS and I am looking forward to helping students reach their potential both on and off the court!"
Welcome to the Lion Pride family, Coach Shirley!
