Student Detention Time Excused for Attending Parent/Teacher Conferences!
Attention Parents and Students:  Our parent/teacher conferences are this Thursday, the 17th, from 3:30 to 7:30 here at PJHS. As a special incentive this term, we are offering to excuse a full detention session for each teacher a student visits with on their schedule during these conferences. We will excuse up to 8 detention sessions for each student (including a visit with their advisory teacher). Visit logs will be available to pick up in the front office and need to be signed by the teacher. Return those to the office to have the detention time excused. Remember that Lagoon Day is coming up in May (the 19th) and our next dance will be held on Feb. 25th. Students need to have 2 or fewer detention hours owed in order to participate in these and other extracurricular activities.
Fight the New Drug Assembly and Parent Info Meeting
PJHS is fortunate to have scheduled a student assembly with the national non-profit group Fight the New Drug which is a non-religious and non-legislative organization that exists to provide individuals the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding pornography by raising awareness on its harmful effects using only science, facts, and personal accounts. You can view more information from this organization, including getting access to their three part documentary, on their website at this link. The assembly will take place on Friday, Feb. 18th, at 8:35 am. We will have a modified assembly schedule of shortened classes for that day.
An information meeting for parents will take place the evening of Feb. 17th during Parent Teacher Conferences at 6:30 pm in the library. You can attend in person or join the meeting virtually at that time by viewing this YouTube link
Post-Valentine Dance
It’s time to get excited about our 3rd term dance! The student council has been working hard to prepare a Valentine-themed dance for February, and we’ve had to move it to Friday the 25th to avoid other scheduling conflicts. The dance will run from 6 to 8 pm in our PJHS gym. Remember that you need to have no more than 2 hours of owed detention time to be able to participate in extracurricular activities.
8th Grade Student Seminary Registration
For those 8th graders interested in registering for seminary next school year 2022-23, PJHS Seminary is hosting an event during 1st lunch only on Friday, Feb. 18th at the PJHS seminary building. 8th grade students who are interested in taking seminary are welcome to come join for pizza, meet the teachers, and see the building.  Feb. 22nd is when course selections for 8th graders will take place during science class.  Information will be sent home for parents at that time.
2022 Nebo Stakeholder Survey
The Nebo Stakeholder Survey is ready to access for parents, students, and employees and will be open until Monday, Feb. 28th.  The link to the survey is found on the Nebo School District homepage, or you can click here. Students will be given time during their advisory period on Monday, Feb. 14th to complete the survey.  Parents have also been sent a link to the survey via email. This survey allows you to give feedback to the district on your child’s school and teachers. Please take a few minutes to share your valuable insight with us.
State Swim Meet
State Swim is this weekend!! Friday and Saturday at BYU. We start at 4:00 each day and they are live streamed. Our very own Avery Bulkley will be swimming along with several members of the high school team.
Battle of the Books
Our annual "Battle of the Books" competition is Thursday Feb. 17 during school.  We wish all contestants "good luck".  The district "Battle of the Books" competition is Friday Feb. 25 at Salem Junior High.
Orchestra Performances
Payson Jr. High Orchestras will be showing off their latest work in a concert Wednesday February 16th, at 7:00 p.m. at Payson Jr. High School Auditorium. Friends and family are welcome.  It will last about 45 minutes. Payson Jr. High 7th Period Orchestra will be performing in front of a judge for a grade on Thursday February 24th during school.  All Jr. High orchestras in the district will be performing for each other and will then be given a grade and critiqued by Ms. Anna Smith.  She will hear each group and then run a short workshop with each group and give them advice and pointers to improve their performance and highlight their strengths. Mount Nebo Middle School, Payson Jr. High, and Payson High School will be performing for each other the night of Wednesday March 2nd at 7:00 p.m.  It is free!  Parents and students will get to see the progress students have made (or will make) as they advance through the different school orchestra programs. The concert will end with a grand finale comprised of all levels of students playing along with the HS Symphony Orchestra with an arrangement of Ode to Joy by Beethoven. It will be a fun evening for all!
