Capitol Hill Day

An announcement from the Utah County Health Department youth group coordinator:  OUTRAGE!, our community-led countywide youth advocacy and prevention group that empowers youth to fight back against BIG Tobacco, nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drug misuse by using effective prevention strategies and advocacy, has a learning opportunity for interested PJHS students.

Each year we seek to provide the youth with an opportunity to advocate and learn about the legislative process. We take the youth up to the state capitol where they meet with legislators and have the opportunity to educate them about local issues involving tobacco, alcohol, prescription drugs, and other substances. They also get the opportunity to tour the capitol and learn more about how a bill becomes a law. We thought it would be a good opportunity for students to experience the legislative process outside of school; in live action; while having a life changing educational experience knowing they are contributing to positive changes in their community and their state. We would like to invite them to join us at the capitol.

To make sure the youth are prepared for Capitol Day, We will provide a training for them before they go up to the Capitol. The training will be Saturday February 12th. We will go to the Capitol on Thursday February 17th. We do need all youth to register before attending, and they can do so in this form.  If you’d like more information, please see the flier attached here.
