Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Kevin Mecham and I am the new principal at Payson Jr. High school. I am excited to be a Grizzly and to work with the teachers, staff, parents, and students of this school. The PJHS faculty and staff cares deeply for the students they work with. This will actually be my third experience working at PJHS. I started my teaching career here 19 years ago. I spent two years here teaching math. My second experience was about 10 years ago, when I was asked to be the assistant principal. I was the assistant principal for just over a year. Now I am back as the principal. For the past two years I have been an assistant principal at Payson High School. Previously, I taught at PHS for 7 years. I have been in and around the Payson secondary schools for much of my career and love the area and people here. I also live in the area.
Here at Payson Jr. High, we are working hard to be ready for a new school year. A few things are causing our work to be different than normal. First, I am new to PJHS so I am learning a lot about the school, and its culture. We are also learning a new student information system. The new system (Infinite Campus-we will call it I-Campus) does not seem difficult to use, it is the fact that it is new and different. Please be patient as you start to learn the new system. Traditionally, registration has begun later in the summer, but because we are all learning this new tool, the registration process will begin on Monday, July 13th. You will or already have received an email from the Nebo School District with instructions about completing the online process. The last thing is that we are working to implement procedures to keep students and staff safe with regard to the COVID-19 virus. The best thing you can do to help us is to prepare your students for the fact that they will be wearing a mask at school. I can’t wait to see all the clever masks students will wear (help us make sure they are school appropriate.) Otherwise, everything is pretty normal.
Registration asks you to do three main things:
- Update your information or verify it is correct.
- Add at least two emergency contacts for your student (you may have up to five.)
- Pay school fees on a separate website: myschoolfees.com.
Once you have completed registration and paid fees you will be able to see your students schedule beginning AUGUST 3, 2020. Counselors will also be available starting Aug. 3 to help make any needed changes and assist parents in enrolling in “Utah Students Connect” for those choosing the online (remote learning) option. For those needing a fee waiver, please come to the school either Aug. 5 or 7 between 8 am and 3 pm to meet with an administrator.
We are here to assist you and to answer questions you may have. Our school office hours are Monday - Thursday 9 AM-2 PM. We will resume regular office hours beginning August 3, 2020.
Parents who desire to do walk-in registration may do so August 5th and August 7th.
Please take a minute to fill out this form about lockers and PTA. As you complete this questionnaire, keep in mind that we will be allowing students to carry a backpack this year. In the past we have allowed students to share a locker with a friend but this year we cannot share unless those sharing are siblings. Unfortunately, we do not have enough lockers for every student to have their own. We have found in the past that many students do not use their lockers. We are hoping to assign lockers to students who would like one and use it throughout the year. Please indicate student preference by filling out the form.
