Parent Newsletter WE 10/9/15

PJHS Parents,

Last week was full of excitement for many of our students and staff. On Tuesday we were privileged to host NBC’s Today Show Weekend Edition and Specialized Bicycle Company. Harry Smith, Today Weekend correspondent, along with a technical crew and representatives from Specialized Bicycle interviewed and filmed our bike program students and staff. Our program began 10 years ago as a partnership with Specialized. We used the bicycles for after school clubs and some PE until 2013 when we collaborated with Specialized to study the correlation of physical activity and academic achievement. After two successful years, Today Weekend took notice. Look for PJHS to be featured on the Sunday edition sometime in October! We are proud of the bicycle program and all of our physical education curriculum. At Grizzly Nation we know to move is to become healthy!

Serving Detentions

We are closing in on the end of Term 1 and in order to qualify for many of the Grizzly activities next term and avoid truancy, tardies need to be made up by serving detention time. The times are as follows:

  • Before School - Mrs. Wagner’s Room D148 (must let teacher know it is for detention).

  • Den Time - Room A23 Monday through Thursday - ONLY WITH ALL PASSING GRADES.

Red Ribbon Week

“DID YOU KNOW, children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.” -taken from This week we are participating in Drug Free Week at school. Each advisory class is working to become more aware of the dangers of drug use and ways to remain drug free. We have activities each day and our student council will remind students during announcements of ways to lead a drug free life.

Monday: Create posters promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Tuesday: 500 Mile Walk to stomp out drugs. All students, faculty, and staff will each walk 1/2 mile to prove their determination and drive to be drug free. As they walk, students will proudly display their anti-drug posters and participate in a poster contest that is judged by the PTA. The walk will end with a program that includes musical numbers and speeches from several BYU athletes. The final event will be announcing the poster contest winners-who win the coveted spirit banner and a treat for their class.

Wednesday: Fun Run! 2 miles of fun! See Mrs. Braithwaite to sign up.
