Here at Payson Jr. High, we encourage all our students to work hard. The more time and effort you put into your work, the higher your achievements will be! Your effort will make you stronger! Keep working hard, Grizzlies. You're all wonderful. And remember: don't stop until you're proud!
Just a reminder we have Parent Teacher Conferences TONIGHT from 3:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The teachers will be in the cafeteria, seated by departments. Thanks in advance to our PTA for feeding our faculty a delicious dinner!
Payson Junior was surprised with a fun delivery from our local Payson Walmart! They brought in boxes and boxes of supplies for our teachers and students to use. One of our students even said to me, "It feels like Christmas!" What a happy day at Payson Junior High. We feel truly grateful for the support!
Payson Junior High benefits greatly from the School Land Trust program. This past year we were able to hold numerous faculty inservice trainings and planning sessions. We purchased classroom equipment such as computers, white boards, video screens and sound systems. We also purchased teaching and reading materials to help our teachers and their focus on student learning.
Today at Payson Jr. High, we held an assembly celebrating the memory of those whose lives were lost in the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. We celebrated the courage, bravery, and sacrifice of those who put themselves in danger in order to protect and rescue others. We were joined by members of the Utah National Guard, members of Payson's police and fire departments, as well as other members of the community. Principal Swenson shared his memories of that fateful day. Students participated by singing patriotic songs, giving a brief history of the American flag and its design, and retiring tattered American flags which once flew over our school.
Sandy Dahl, whose husband was the pilot of Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, responded to the experience of that day with these wise words: "If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate" (Parade Magazine).
George W. Bush, who was President of the United States at the time, said, "One of the worst days in America's history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans' history. We'll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice" (9/11 Pentagon Memorial Speech).
Former President Barack Obama said, "Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11" (Time Magazine).
Choose to honor those who lost their lives on this day, sixteen years ago, by showing kindness and serving others. It's the American way, and it's the Grizzly way.
We hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. We now are on the countdown to fall break. There are just a few reminders for our parents and students to help this year continue to run smooth.
1- Dress code- Please review the dress code policy for Nebo School District. We are seeing a few violations of the dress code and would like to address this early in the year. If you have any questions regarding the dress please reference the attached student handbook.
2- Attendance and Tardies- As a school policy a parent can only excuse tardies for 1st period and only a maximum of five (5) 1st period tardies per term can be excused. A student is allowed a total of two (2) tardies, if more are accumulated there are consequences outlined in the student handbook. For more information regarding tardies please reference the attached student handbook.
Please read through the many wonderful events happening at Payson Junior High. Remember to check our social media sites for any additional information.

Kelly Cobia, one of our students at Payson Junior High, was awarded the Mayor's Youth Recognition Award by the Payson City Council earlier this week. This award recognizes Kelly's hard work and effort to improve our school and community. She helps other students to be successful while also increasing their confidence. Kelly was nominated for this award by teachers who have experienced and appreciated her contributions. Here's what they have to say:
"Kelly has always blown me away with her work ethic and her kindness towards others. She is a wonderful friend to her peers. She will make a huge difference in the world. I know, because she already has." - Ms. LeBaron
"Kelly Cobia is excited about life and learning. She engages 110% in every challenge; it is more important to her to understand and perform correctly than it is to get the grade. I see Kelly as a life-long learner, constantly curious and ever-expanding her knowledge. She has a smile that never quits." - Mrs. Hulet
"Kelly is a model student and a great example to her peers. She is always willing to participate and share her insight." – Mrs. Gillie
"Kelly is friendly and hard-working. She takes her education seriously and uses her time responsibly. She shows both effort and self initiative and is kind and helpful toward others. Our school is a better place because Kelly is in it. She is a role model for others." – Mr. Davis
Thanks, Kelly, for being such an awesome Grizzly and making us proud. Congratulations!
