McKenzie Gunter

Our day at Salem Pond was filled with smiles and laughs! Ms. Gunter's class loved playing park games and watching their friends catch fish. The highlight of the trip for the students was towards the end of the day when the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources emptied our their tank of fish into the pond. They watched fish flop into the water and loved every minute of it. Ms. Gunter's favorite part of the day was seeing how independent and responsible the students from Payson Junior High are. They have had a great year, and Fishing Day was a great way to start the end of the year!

Our "Spring into Musicals" Choir concert was held on May 11, 2017.  We started at 6:45 p.m.  with a pre-concert set of three solos sung by Ashley Hansen, Ellee Barton, and Madi Drager. They each did a great job on their solos!
Then at 7:00 p.m. we presented certificates and treats to 41 9th grade students who are moving on to PHS next year. It is always bitter sweet saying good-bye to my 9th grade students but I am excited for each of them and all the great things they will do at the high school.
Women's Chorus and Advanced Women's Chorus sang a beautiful medley of princess songs which included: Beauty and the Beast, Part of Your World, Reflection and I See the Light. Paige Snyder and Carter Behrend were the hit of this medley singing their parts in "I See the Light"... (They are an item right now, so it was EXTRA SPECIAL)Men's Chorus performed "Make a Man out of You" from Mulan and Concert Choir delighted the audience with "You're Welcome" from Moana and Chamber Singers sang a broadway arrangement of Supercalifragilistic from Mary Poppins.
We finished off the concert with all the choirs participating in a 15 minute medley titled  "Disney Movie Magic"   This medley included songs from Hercules, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Lion King. The students  did a fantastic job with this medley that included choreography as well as solos sung by: Derrek DuBreuil, Carter Behrend, Sydney Lane, Katelyn Lane, Chelsea Fakatou, Devin Hancock, Jacob Laney. We also had amazing full solos/duets by Kolby Jenson and Parker Larsen, Devyn Olson and Megan Harris.     The whole evening was fun and entertaining. A great way to end the year!

Payson Junior High Orchestras performed for the very last time this year in front of each other and family and friends in a very wonderful concert.  It was full of beautiful songs and energetic, crowd-pleasing music that everyone seemed to enjoy.  The performers were well-prepared and eager to show their families a sample of all their hard work put in on their instruments both individually, and as groups, during the past several months.

Trophies, certificates, and prizes for switching instruments, going the extra mile, completion of Jr. High Orchestra, and the perfect practice chart record for the year were awarded.  The concert ended on a rousing high note with a rendition of "Themes from Pirates of the Caribbean" performed by the Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Orchestras combined together.  They were accompanied by several students from the orchestra, and a couple of guest musicians from the band on percussion.

The Payson Junior High Track and Field Team have a lot to be proud of from their District Finals meet last week. Almost every athlete was able to participate, and the energy was high. We had several point scorers at the meet: Mark Hartland placed 3rd in the Men's 110m Hurdles. Jocelyn Tucker-Lund placed 4th in the Women's Mile and 6th in the 800m. Kate Golding placed 6th in the Women's Mile. Kasen Johnson placed 2nd in the Men's 400m and 4th in the 800m. Molly Mortensen placed 4th in the Women's High Jump, and Konnor Miner placed 7th in the Men's. Our relays also worked together extremely well. The team was bigger than it's ever been this season, and we hope to keep building on the momentum next year!
